We are pleased to announce the 2023 Rajat Neogy Editorial Fellows at A Long House!
Ese Emmanuel and Dennis Mugaa have been selected as this year’s fellows. They’ll be succeeding the inaugural fellows, Clarie Gor and Kelechi Njoku. The pool of applicants was large and the selection process was by no means easy, as we received excellent applications from all over Africa. Ultimately, our decision was based on our fellows’ deep interest in the African literary ecosystem, their demonstrated desire to elevate and create space for black voices and black stories on the continent and in the diaspora.
The fellowship will take place over the course of a year between 2023 and 2024. Each fellow will receive editorial education as well as receive support on projects which they may undertake in their capacity as fellows with the magazine. They will also receive $1000 each and a tote bag of books.

Ese Emmanuel
Ese Emmanuel is a writer, cultural worker and curator, among other things. Their work prioritises the radical imaginary: conscious acts of space-making for collaboration, play, care, and rest. They currently live and work between Lagos and Ibadan, Nigeria.
Dennis Mugaa
Dennis Mugaa is a writer from Meru, Kenya. He won the 2022 Black Warrior Review Fiction Contest, was Shortlisted for Isele Magazine’s inaugural Short Story Prize and was longlisted for the 2021 Afritondo Short Story Prize. His work has appeared in Fantasy Magazine, Jalada Africa, Lolwe, Isele Magazine and Washington Square Review. He has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia where he was a 2021/2022 Miles Morland Foundation Scholarship recipient.
We’re also back from a long recess. We have been working on a restructure of A Long House. We’re happy to announce that we’re bringing Clarie Gor, who was a Rajat Neogy Editorial Fellow last year, on board as the magazine’s new Managing Editor. We’ve also added another member to our team. Joseph Omoh Ndukwu will now work with us as an Associate Editor. We’re quite pleased to welcome these new and amazing people to the team.
Clarie Gor is a Kenyan writer. Her writing has been published in Catapult, SmokeLong Quarterly, The Audacity, and Stillpoint Magazine, among others. Her stories have been nominated for The Pushcart Prize and shortlisted for the Bridport Short Story Prize among others.
Joseph Omoh Ndukwu is a writer and editor with works in Guernica, Prairie Schooner, A Long House, Transition, and elsewhere. In 2021, he was selected for the Momus Emerging Critics Residency, and in 2022, he won the Virginia Faulkner Award for Excellence in Writing. He lives in Ibadan, Nigeria.
Finally, We’re happy to announce that we will now be paying a small stipend for submissions. We’re currently closed for submissions, but details of our next issue will be announced very soon, so be on the lookout!
